Russian Finnish goshawk
Zeena was a passage female Russian Northern Goshawk. She was trapped in Northern Finland on her southern migration.
There were no restrictions on trapping or moving hawks within Europe in the sixties and I could have a hawk in my mews within three days of it being removed from the bownet.

Zeena was a wild and powerfully determined hawk and she starting flying at 3 lb. 4 ozs. which is 52 ozs. She was oversized for the island that I lived on because we had no indigenous hares and few pheasants, so at the end of the winter I sold her to a falconer in England who was looking for a hare hawk.

I remember to this day complaining of an aching arm and stating that I would not fancy carrying anything bigger.

Funny how things turn out in life.
